Our scholars know Khaleefa is sunnah from the best of Muslims, following the tradition that began after the Prophet’s death, when Muslims came together to elect Abu Bakr as the first Khalifa, followed by Umar, then Usman, and finally Ali. These leaders represent a legacy of unity, demonstrating that when there is a Khalifa, there is a structure that promotes cooperation and minimizes discord amongst the believers to some degree. In today’s world, however, we find ourselves fragmented and in desperate need for our scholars to take active roles in fostering this unity and to listen to our voices collectively. At the moment, every scholar is on his own, every country is on its own, and every community is on its own, leading us to a disheartening reality where we have never been so divided. It is a crucial time for our communities to seek guidance and support from each other; the need for collaboration and a reaffirmation of shared values has never been more pressing. The time has come to rise above our differences and to explore paths of cooperation and understanding. May Allah make a way for us that He loves and is pleased with, guiding us towards strength in unity and harmony amongst ourselves. Ameen.
